World Fish Migration Day - Bucharest

On 25 May, the Danube Sturgeon Task Force, together with the National Museum for Natural History "Grigore Antipa" Bucharest, WWF Romania, the International Association for Danube Research and the Institute of Biology Bucharest, Romanian Academy, have celebrated the World Fish Migration Day.

Organized under the initiative of Wanningen Water Consult, Netherland, this celebration aimed to raise public awareness on the worldwide decline of migratory fish species as a follow up of the overfishing and habitat disappearance.

Our event was kindly hosted by Grigore Antipa Museum, and included:

  • two presentations on sturgeon life, threats and measures required for their conservation
  • an aquarium with living sturgeons
  • thematic contests for children
  • a sturgeon exhibition within the museum
